Starz Saturday - Zombieland: Double Tap

A sequel worth watching.  I watched 'Zombieland: Double Tap' and I think you should too.  Lets do the Details and Numbers: Title: Zombieland: Double Tap Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone Director: Ruben Fleischer Release Date: October 18, 2019 Released With: Maleficient: Mistress of Evil, Jojo Rabbit Budget: $42 mil. Opening Weekend: $26.8 mil. Domestic: $73.1 mil. Worldwide: $122.8 mil. Some sequels strive to be better than its predecessor.  Most come up empty and are seen as a cash grab for what they are.  'Zombieland: Double Tap' is a solid movie.  Great for wasting an afternoon on a rainy day or good horror/comedy with a partner for a good ol' night in on the couch.  By solid I mean that the movie does not veer off too much from the first movie.  There are some slight changes to its universe such as varying degrees of zombies and the character themselves have began to settle into roles of a family.  Each of...

HBO Thursday - Stuber

Pretty good movie.  That's it.  That's my review.  Simple and effective. I want to do a quick shout out to Ali, thanks for having a quick chat with me on Twitter! Lets do the Details and Numbers: Title: Stuber Starring: Dave Bautista, Kamail Nanjiani Director: Michael Dowse Release Date: July 12, 2019 Released with: Crawl Budget: $16 mil. Opening Weekend: $8.2 mil. Domestic: $22.3 mil. Worldwide: $32.3 mil. By the numbers this movie is a success.  Made a profit from its budget.  Perhaps if I went to the theaters and spent about $50 (tickets, snacks and drinks) I would have been disappointed in this movie.  But this movie is meant for a streaming service.  It may be considered a buddy cop movie, despite Kumail being an Uber driver.  Bautista is a dedicated detective to hunting down a criminal who shot his partner.  He's also temporarily blind from having Lasik surgery.  He's a very surly person which bashes against Kumai...

Rambo: Last Blood - Prime Tuesday

I apologize for not posting yesterday.  I was distracted with everyday life and could not make some time to post my riveting reviewing of 'Rambo: Last Blood'.  Lets get to the Details and Numbers: Title: Rambo: Last Blood Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Paz Vega Director: Adrian Grunberg Release Date: Sept. 20, 2019 Released With: Ad Astra, Downton Abbey, Bloodline Budget:$50 mil. Opening Weekend: $18.8 mil. Domestic: $44.8 mil. Worldwide: $91.4 mil. This movie is part horror movie and part whatever else you want to call this.  The run time might say 89 minutes, but the movie is certainly done at an hour-20.  Not a whole lot of substance, just some gory deaths and a thin story.  Which could be good, could be bad, depending on your preference.  The last half-hour is a horror show. Story is simple, Rambo lives on a farm with his niece and her grandmother?  Its been a few years since I've watched the Rambo series, but I have no memory of a m...

Netflix Monday - Despicable Me

Who is more surprised when Universal Pictures has a hit movie or franchise, moviegoers or Universal Pictures themselves? I watched 'Despicable Me' for Netflix Monday and honestly, I think you should too.  Lets break down the details and numbers. Netflix Monday - Despicable Me Viewed: 4-20-2020 Starring: Steve Carell, Jason Segel Director: Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud Release Date: July 9, 2010 Released With: Predators Budget: $69 mil. Opening Weekend: $56.3 mil. Domestic: $251.5 mil. Worldwide: $543.1 mil. This movie by the numbers is a HUGE success.  It has spawned a successful franchise of two sequels as well as a spin-off movie featuring the true stars: the Minions.  There is not a Halloween or Christmas holiday that goes by that I do not see more and more of the Minion inflatables populate a front lawn.  The movie is textbook and I think that is why it works so well.  A great mix of slapstick comedy, some crude humor, good characters and an...

Showtime Sunday - The Holiday

I'll admit that I chose 'The Holiday' as my Showtime Sunday movie because I thought it would be easy pickings to completely riff on the movie for its cheesiness.  I figured that it would be like most Romantic Comedies and would just follow staples of Boy meets Girl, throw in a gimmick, comedy ensues, Boy and Girl end up together.  And with 4 pretty strong leads, I figured this movie might be better than most.  Boy was I wrong...Was.  I.  Wrong. Showtime Sunday (4/19/2020) Movie: The Holiday Starring: Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black Director: Nancy Meyers Release Date: December 8, 2006 Released with: Apocalypto, Blood Diamond, Unaccompanied Minors The Numbers The Budget: $85 million (est) Opening Weekend: $12.7 million Domestic: $63.2 million Worldwide: $205.8 million I have nothing against Romantic Comedies.  I have even seen a few that I've enjoyed and would not be ashamed to watch them over and over again.  'Love Actu...

New Blog, Old Idea

I know, it's another blog.  I've managed a couple before, but haven't kept up with them in the past.  During this time of isolation, I find myself with time to explore one of my favorite things to do: watch movies and discuss them.  So I've come up with the Quarantine Movie Blog! Or just QMB for short.  I have (too) many movie streaming services and have devised a schedule to watch the many movies that they offer.  My plan is to watch a movie from one of these streaming services a night and then write up a quick and witty review; as well as scour the IMDB for tidbits and numbers.  Feel free to comment below, share your thoughts and this blog link.  And of course, I will take requests.  One should note that I will probably be watching mostly movies that are considered "bad".  Any award-winning movies will probably not be on my radar.  Then again, I don't mind talking about actual good movies if the opportunity presents itself.  All...
